Terlet sponsors Team Zutphen - Roparun 2017

Ingredients for the baking industry is one of the many markets in which Terlet operates

With its components for cooking, cooling and filling, Terlet is able to mix, heat, cool and pack the ingredients in a proper way to meet the required temperatures. Giving the final product a longer shelf life.

One of these products is yellow custard. Terlet supplied two cookers with scraping agitators, two scraped surface heat exchangers type  Terlotherm® Delta 450  and a Van Meurs bag-in-box filling machine type B200 on a skid including the necessary piping, valves and controls.

The two cooking vessels which are brought up to temperature with steam ensures a proper mixing of the ingredients by means of additional quick mixers. One of the two cooking vessels is also used to melt butter blocks. For this purpose, one of the speed mixers is placed on a special platform.

After heating to about 95°C, the product is led by the two Terlotherms® in order to cool the product by means of glycol. After cooling, the product is led via a buffer tank to the Van Meurs bag-in-box filling machine and packed in 1000 liter bags.

Terlet also builds the homogenizer on their skid and makes the line flexible by using several by-passes. This makes it as flexible as possible so that the customer may also use this line for other products.

Terlet has the ability to create, design and build such a line within the organization. The entire line is built up and tested in Zutphen.

10.000 Liter crystallization tanks almost ready to be shipped out

Afbeelding: crystallization tanks

Final assembly of 10.000 Liter crystallization tanks almost ready to be shipped out to a customer in India.

The tanks include a special top driven multi-level blade agitator to stir the product optimally during the crystallization process and are constructed with multiple Terlet wall jackets for uniform cooling throughout the product.

Terlet successfully delivered a Terlotherm Delta 450 to our partner Stephan Machinery GmbH at the end of 2016

The Scraped Surface Heat Exchanger will be used by the end customer to cool hummus. High viscous products like hummus (or e.g. mashed potatoes) tend to have a bad flow through an outlet which could lead to a possible pressure drop. To avoid a pressure drop and to create a smooth flow in our Scraped Surface Heat Exchanger, Terlet added a “purée lid” to this particular order. This patented “purée lid” is a standard option for the Terlotherm Delta 450 and Delta 700.

This is another example of Terlet being able to provide both standard, as well as tailor made solutions which lead to satisfied customers!

Terlet supplies CIP set to leading manufacturer of sweet sauces and ingredients

Although widely known for the design and construction of food preparation lines, Terlet also supplies turn key CIP sets on a regular basis.
Being a specialist on these process lines, Terlet does not only design CIP sets following the modern standards of  CIP, but also has the knowledge and experience to design CIP sets and the attached software tailor made for the applications the process lines operate in.
The CIP set Terlet has supplied is a 3-tank set, with two independently operating CIP supply and return lines.

Safe:
Food safety and Cleaning in Place are linked to each other. Like every CIP system Terlet builds, this line has double seat block and bleed valves, separating the three phases, pre-rinse, detergent cleaning and post rinse, both in the supply as in the return lines.
The cleaning process starts with a pre-rinse at around 40°C. This water is drained after a single passage of the equipment to be cleaned.
The next phase, detergent cleaning takes place at high temperature, with caustic based detergent. This water – detergent mixture circulates over equipment and detergent tank.
Prior to CIP the detergent tank is automatically conditioned, meaning that the temperature and the detergent content are brought to set point. For heating a tubular heat exchanger is used, for detergent dosing  a membrane pump is used.
Finally the equipment is flushed with post rinse water. The post rinse tank is the only non-isolated tank, as fresh, cold food grade water is used.
The post rinse water is re-used by pumping it in the pre-rinse tank, to be used as post rinse water in the next CIP run.

Savings:
The CIP system delivered, like any modern CIP system, recovers post rinse water and circulated detergent water.
Additional savings on water, energy and detergent can be made by minimizing the mixing phase. The mixing phases exist between pre-rinse and detergent cleaning, when the pre-rinse water dilutes the detergent water and between detergent clean and post rinse, when post rinse water dilutes detergent water.
The Terlet CIP set has several features, mainly software orientated, that reduce the mixing phases and thus the use of water, energy and detergent.

Two loops:

The CIP system described has two loops, meaning the two separate objects can be cleaned at the same time, fully independent from each other.
Two objects can even be in the same phase of cleaning, as both loops have their own pump and heat exchanger.
The double seat valves assure that the two flows cannot cross and cause contamination.

Vacuum gassing equipment refurbishing

Terlet has been producing vacuum-gassing systems since the 1950’s and even the automatic version has been on the market for over 40 years. After 35-40 years of operation, refurbishment may be necessary for a vacuum gassing system.

Our factory is fully equipped to perform a refurbishment on your dated system. However, a refurbisment on site is also possible.

After receiving the dated system, it is fully stripped, cleaned and repainted. The sysem is then built up again and a new can loading and discharging system is added. New controls with PLC, touch panel and frequency controllers are installed, based on Siemens or Allan Bradley, as required, with communication through ethernet with other equipment in line and a VPN router for remote assistance.

In addition, safety is an important issue and depending on the lay-out of the system, Terlet can install safety fences.

After transport, erection and commissioning on site your refurbished system is, once again, good to go for an other generation.

The Terlet vacuum gassing installation

Due to the growing global demand for baby food, there is also an increased demand for packaging for these products. Since the greatest growth is particularly apparent in Asia and South America, where the logistics are less in order than in Europe, the shelf life of products is a very important issue. Therefore, the choice here is often for can packaging.
Baby food products consist for the greater part of (whole) milk powder in which the fat component is subject to the influence of oxygen to decay.
The vacuum gassing installation from Terlet can be used for the exchange of air (oxygen) for an inert gas such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide. The shelf life of these products is thus extended to an average of about 2 years.
Terlet has been building these systems for many years according to a trusted concept. The main innovations this past year were to increase the usability for operators and maintenance technicians. This is achieved by using lighter material for the change parts when using an other container size and by increasing accessibility around the installation for cleaning and maintenance.
Safety has been given the attention it deserves by placing machine guard doors with an electric lock that prevents the door to be opened before the installation is in a safe condition.
The Terlet vacuum gassing installations are supplied with two different vacuum chamber sizes with capacities up to 300 cans of 500 grams per minute.

After Sales

Terlet sees professional service as one of its most important tasks. Our After Sales Department is a team of experienced maintenance and emergency service technicians and support specialists. Not only are Terlet’s own repairs no problem for our technicians, but other brands of machines as well. With a Terlet service contract, we can offer tailor-made professional preventive maintenance.

The After Sales department also supplies spare parts for all of its machines. Whether it is for a scraped surface heat exchanger, tank, vacuum gassing installation or a filling machine, we have it all. We have a large stock of parts and can provide fast and global delivery for all our installations. We also supply various appendages.

Terlet participated in 7th International Whey Conference Rotterdam

Afbeelding: banner

Liquid whey is a by-product of the production of cheese and contains lactose, vitamins, protein, and minerals which are important additives in many processed foods. The lactose in whey can be separated by crystallizing the crystals and separating them during a second phase in a decanter or evaporator. Terlet, a specialist in design and production of high quality crystallization tanks, participated in the 7th International Whey Conference which was held from September 7th – 9th in the World Trade Center in Rotterdam.

During this conference Terlet showed the possibilities for crystallizing lactose and whey. Special attention was given to the crystallization tank with bottom driven agitator which has an inner cylinder that also takes part in the cooling process. Therefore this tank has a maximum cooling surface and flexibility in temperature in the crystallization curve. This will give an optimal contribution to the mutarotion  between α and β crystals which will lead to a higher efficiency of the crystallization process.

Furthermore, Terlet showed their possibilities with vacuum and gassing machines which replace trapped air with inert gas in metal and composite cans. Originally this process to vacuum cans is meant to prevent the oxidation of milk fat in contact with oxygen, but skimmed products with valuable nutrition and vitamins are treated the same way.

Overall, the 7th International Whey Conference was an outstanding opportunity for whey processing and application industries to meet with scientists, academics and researchers to exchange knowledge and new ideas in a stimulating environment.

A peanut butter and peanut sauce process line

For a Dutch client, Terlet is making a process line for the production of peanut butter and peanut sauce. In two separate tanks the products are mixed and heated to the desired temperature. These tanks have double agitators: an anchor with scrapers and a screw. This provides a very homogeneous product. After  the product has gone through the tanks, it reaches the Terlotherm scraped surface heat exchanger Delta 450, which provides the product being cooled off to desired temperature before filling.

Emulsified & cooked sauces plant

Afbeelding: Nieuwsbrief ASFFLine

We at Terlet, are proud to announce that we have delivered our first turn key process unit for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The process plant we delivered, is designed as a multi purpose plant meaning that it can prepare all different types of emulsified sauces, such as mayonnaise and dressings, as well as all types of cooked sauces, such as ketchup and other red sauces, with or without particulates. The unique main vessel and central driven agitator design enables our client to prepare different products such as soups and jams. The preparation unit itself is our Culimaster batch unit, type CM 1500, which is able to prepare up to 1500 liter sauce every batch. This machine is able to produce 2 to 3 batches every hour, meaning that the average capacity can go up to approximately 4000 kg per hour. Since the Culimaster is executed with a heating jacket it is also able to prepare cooked sauces, such as all types of ketchups and red sauces. In order to create even more  flexibility and to make the overall output of the plant even higher, we also supplied a buffer tank unit, complete with a Terlotherm scraped surface heat exchanger for external cooking and / or cooling. This additional investment enables the client to have the Culimaster ready available for the next batch while cooling and filling. This batch system, that can basically produce any type of sauce the client desires, truly is multi purposeful!

Terlotherm – now with metal detection

Adding to food safety, all new Terlotherms can now be fitted with metal detectable scrapers to ensure damaged material does not enter the food chain. During a 4 year project Terlet developed a material that can be used without impacting the life of the scraper or Terlotherm. The new Terlotherm scraper blades are manufactured with a high quality x-ray and metal detectable synthetic material. This material   is tasteless, non-toxic and contains no undesirable reinforcing material such as  glass fibers, etc. The chemical resistance is very high, where as the water absorption  extremely low. In addition to these advantages the new synthetic scraper material is also bacteriologic inert. The metal detectable scraper material is in compliance with the EC1935/2004 guidelines.

Able to fit existing Terlotherms, the scrapers can be inspected or changed without disturbing the mechanical seal, maintaining the life of the seal and ensuring that cleaning of the exchanger plays no part in durability.

Terlet introduces a brand new single mechanical seal for its Terlotherm scraped surface heat exchangers.  This seal is completely designed according to the USDA hygienic guidelines.

By using these guidelines, Terlet has reduced the risk of pitting corrosion at the interface of the stainless steel housing and the seal surface. Due to high gloss polishing, less product will stick to the seal and it is much easier to clean. The new seal has been designed to be easily exchangeable with your existing seal.

Maxxitherm

Afbeelding: Flow schema uitgekleed small

The Maxxitherm is a tank designed to melt, mix and cook raw materials. Due to the specialized horizontal heated coiled agitator, the Maxxitherm is the optimal batch preparation tank for rapid heating and evaporation.

The design of the coiled agitator and the double jacketed tank bottom enables a rapid heating process due to the large heating transfer. Color, structure  and aroma will be preserved better, thanks to the relatively short time at high temperature. Cooking under vacuum enables cooking at a low temperature and evaporation.

The open structure of the coil ensures gentle handling of particulate products and makes CIP cleaning easy with no blind spots. The height of the tank allows the product to expand during vacuum cooling. The Maxxitherm comes in the following standards 1000, 1750 and 2500 liters.

Advantages of the Maxxitherm:

  • Easily cleanable
  • Easily accessible
  • Large heating transfer
  • Gentle handling of the product
  • No loss of product

Applications of the Maxxitherm

  • Cooking under atmospheric pressure
  • Cooking under vacuum
  • Evaporating
  • Mixing and stirring

Terlet receives order from German sauce producer for Terlotherm pasteurization unit

Terlet received an order from a German Sauce manufacturer for the supply of a Terlotherm pasteurization plant. With this installation, the customer is able to pasteurize 1.8 tons/h of different sauces and take a new step in the planned capacity expansion. The unit will be supplied with a product recovery system so that it is possible to regain the product, which remains in the unit after each batch.

Terlotherm Laboratory Pilot Plant

The ultimate Terlotherm Laboratory Pilot Plant for heating and cooling various kind of products on pilot scale (80 – 250 kg/hour). The unit consists of 3 Laboratory Terlotherm scraped surface heat exchangers (heaters and coolers), a holding tube to pasteurize the product in various time schedules, a flow plate to make the unit maximum flexible and to connect with other devices. Finally a 10” control panel is mounted to monitor the whole process and store the valuable data. All is build together on 1 moveable skid.

Terlet's tiltable vessel

Terlet has designed a tiltable vessel which is due to its design very suitable for production of ready meals, sauces and ragouts.
The tiltable effect has made production of viscose products like stew, noodles or rice easy.
The bottom driven mixer with bottom and side scrapers and also the diagonal design gives the vessel an excellent mixing effect. These measurements provide an extreme heat or cool exchange.

Most products can be kept homogenic through the diagonal design. The vessel is equipped with an easy control panel to control the mixer, tilting and temperature. It can be designed from volumes from 100 liters upto 1000 liters.
Pressure of vacuum design is optional.
